Renewed Push For Lower BAC Limit For Drunk Driving

There are a few lawmakers in New York State that want to lower the threshold for driving while intoxicated and are pushing for a new bill. In New York the current DWI threshold is a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.08 but some lawmakers want to bring that down to 0.05.

The lawmakers in support of lowering the bill are following a similar bill that passed in Utah. The National Transportation and Safety Board has recommended the lowering of the threshold for years in all states.

Under the current law a person could drink 4-5 alcoholic beverages before reaching 0.08. If this new bill passes a person would only be able to consume 2-3 drinks. The aim of the proposal is to save live due to drinking and driving.
