New York Ends Regents Graduation Requirement

New York will eliminate standardized tests for accountability, but they will no longer determine whether a student graduates. Final regulations Regent’s exams as a graduation requirement starting with the class of 2028.

Students will earn a single diploma based on a broader range of assessments, including classroom work, projects, and teacher evaluations.

The state will still give standardized tests for accountability, but they will no longer determine whether a student graduates. Final regulations are expected to be approved in June 2027.
