It seems Brandon Marshall is unfazed by what the internet thinks of his parenting choices! The former NFL player slid in his own comment section to clock mixed reactions to how he chose to discipline his son, who’s about 10 or 11 years old. A video shared last week shows Marshall recording the boy running late at night as punishment. After his followers flooded his comment section, he responded to a select few.

Brandon Marshall Tells His Son To Run At 2 A.M.
Marshall first shared the discipline video last Wednesday (June 17), adding a photo of him and his son as the cover image. He tagged his son in the caption, saying, “This is my son not my friend.. . @zi3marshall.” Not much is known about Brandon’s relationship with his mini-me, who is a twin. The father and his wife, Michi Nogami-Campbell, have three children together, but mostly keep their family life private.
In the clip, Brandon Marshall is recording from the driver’s seat in a moving vehicle as his son jogs in a neighborhood. Speaking to him, Brandon Marshall explains that the run is no different from other activities they’ve done in Santa Monica that his son wanted to do. However, he said, there’s a difference between that and discipline and correction. Marshall then encourages the boy to run.
“Discipline, correction is good, even two in the morning. I don’t gotta put my hands on you, but I’m training you up to be a warrior. I’m training you up to be a warrior…to be a leader, to serve, have discipline. To be better than me. Run, run. Let’s go.”
Afterward, Marshall warned him if he didn’t start running, he’d be running three miles. “So you better start running cause you don’t know when imma tell you to stop. You don’t want to listen? We run, we work. Two in the morning, let’s go. Faster.” The former athlete challenged his son to pick up his pace to patch the car at over six miles per hour. See the interaction unfold below.
Social Media Reacts To Punishment Video
Currently, the video of Brandon Marshall’s son is the only post available on his Instagram profile. The video has over 6,700 likes and at least 800 comments as of Monday (June 22). As mentioned, his comment section is a mix of folks supporting his form of discipline and others challenging it. A few others are in agreement, but criticized Brandon for posting about it on social media.
Instagram user @channondriver, for example, commented, “You should NEVER discipline a child with embarrassment, it messes up their mental health state. Kids are people too. This is so lame. It didn’t need to be public if this is how you wanted to discipline that’s fine. You did this to show off on the internet. I hope you take this down. And I read some of your comments learn how to take constructive criticism my guy. Most of us aren’t trying to hurt you just giving good feedback. Take care.”
@cbsmyheart wrote, “Y’all acting like this is hurting HIS SON. He’s teaching. Correcting behaviors before the streets do.”
While @marquisegoodwin joked, “Speed up nephew 😂”
@buttawiththejam commented, “Do what you must! My son wanted to be a clown in class. Tell them jokes while you run these suicides & burpees since you think school is play time. Mom is NOT playing so he had to tighten up.”
@coachjayroberts added, “This sir is wack and embarrassing I have 4 young men all whom I had to discipline at some point but I never embarrass my children especially in this era. This has gone viral so the amount of jokes and laughs from his peers he has gotten could shatter his confidence. Kings (Real) Kings move with a stern but fair hand and always protect the kingdom. This is completely not needed but do what you do.”
@djblank75 commented, “That’s family business, not instagram business 🤷🏾♂️.”
“Great job! It’s best coming from someone who truly loves him. Someone who would never put him in harm’s way. That’s you @bmarshall. He’ll thank you for it later,” @rodsmith80 wrote.
@reneparra said, “These boys need this type of discipline! I’ll never tell my son’s dad to chill when he’s doing man/father things. Handle it so the other man doesn’t have to do it for you. Good job @bmarshall 👏.”
@sbgeorges added, “And this is on social media because?”
“Why post this? Discipline your way but why post it. It does seem like clout bait,” @bigeazy56 commented.
@nlmf.jermo wrote, “It’s crazy how people in the comments criticizing his parenting skills but when his son start playing sports the coaches gone make him run for the same things his dad is making him run for.”
Marshall Clocks Critics & Agrees With Supporters
In the days since it was posted, Brandon Marshall’s video ended up on The Shade Room’s Instagram account. By then, he had hopped into his own comment section to clear the critics, but also to respond to those seeing his way of doing things.
He liked the following comment, “Y’all acting like this is hurting HIS SON. He’s teaching. Correcting behaviors before the streets do.”
Another comment by @djblank79 said the punishment is “family business, not Instagram business.” To that, Marshall replied, “That’s your way this my way.”
To another comment telling him to lead by example and criticizing Marshall for driving, the former NFL player replied:
“I just had a procedure on my back. I can’t run. But if you know me you know I lead from the front in ALL rooms.”
Marshall also replied, “Facts” to a comment that says, “Our job is to build men, not boys.”
