NYC Approves Three Las Vegas-Style Casinos Outside Manhattan
Written by Site Hub on December 13, 2025
New York City will soon welcome its first three Las Vegas-style casinos after the state Gaming Commission approved licenses for projects in Queens and the Bronx. The selected sites include a Hard Rock casino near the Mets’ Citi Field, a Bally’s facility at the former Trump-operated golf course in the Bronx, and an expanded Resorts World venue at Aqueduct Race Track near JFK Airport. Together, the projects are expected to bring billions in investment and create tens of thousands of jobs, with estimated gambling tax revenues reaching $7 billion from 2027 to 2036. The decision follows a competitive selection process, which saw plans for casinos in Manhattan and Coney Island rejected due to local opposition. Critics voiced concerns about gambling addiction, while proponents emphasized economic gains. Governor Kathy Hochul said the move would support state infrastructure and education. Trump may also receive a financial windfall from Bally’s based on their contract terms. Each casino must operate under strict oversight, including appointing independent monitors to ensure compliance with financial and legal obligations.
