Monroe County Reaches ‘High Level’ of Transmission for COVID-19

Written by on August 12, 2021

According to the CDC, Monroe County has reached a level of “high” COVID-19 transmission. Monroe County is currently the only county in our area to reach that threshold, but counties such as Orleans, Wayne, Seneca, and Yates Counties have each been designated as being at “substantial” risk of transmission, and Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, and Ontario Counties are listed as having a “moderate” risk of transmission.

Just last week, Monroe County was designated as “substantial,” however yesterday the county reported 168 new cases, up from 93 the day before. The positivity rate is at 4.5 percent, and there are 78 COVID patients in Finger Lakes hospitals. This is more than double the number from August 1st. According to the CDC, more than 98% of Americans live in areas that have an either high or substantial risk of COVID spread.
