Homelessness in Rochester has surged, with a 41% increase compared to last year, according to a report from the state comptroller.
One affected family, the Greens — a man, his fiancée, and their 9-month-old twin babies — became homeless after their rent rose on August 18, leaving them unable to find affordable housing.
While Monroe County offers $875 in assistance for a family of four, local rents range from $950 to $1,000, making housing inaccessible for them.
The family has been moving between shelters and now faces eviction from their current one in just five days.
