Expect Higher Energy Bills Starting In September

Written by on August 15, 2025

National Grid customers in New York state are bracing for higher bills. The New York Public Service Commission has unanimously approved the utility’s three-year rate hike plan, which will go into effect starting in September for certain customers. This will add another $22 per month to energy bills, and that cost is expected to fluctuate over the next three years. In the second year, prices will increase by more than $14 per month, and in the third year more than $13. That is an increase of nearly $50 per month over those three years. The plan will ensure that customers are not hit all at once with the rate hike. The company said this plan was created considering the record number of damaging storms we’ve had and the expected energy demand increase in the coming years. National Grid supplies utilities to 2.4 million customers in Western and Upstate New York, including thousands in our viewing area. NYSEG and RG&E are also awaiting approval for their proposed rate hike plans. According to the Public Service Commission website, their plans include an increase of $33 per month for the average customer.
