While addressing his supporters in his election night speech, El-Sayed told the crowd, “Michigan, we did it!” per a clip shared by C-SPAN. He later added, “You took a chance on the unlikeliest of candidates, so thank you, this is all yours … You welcomed me into your homes, your churches, your synagogues.”

El-Sayed continued in his speech early Wednesday that the “opposition decided to try to divide us. At first, they pointed to my name and my faith as if to say, you know, he’s a little different … They want an America that is too small for some of us. We know that America is big enough for all of us.” He also posted on Facebook after the win, “It is my honor and privilege to be headed to the US Senate to serve the great state of Michigan.” “Michigan, we did what they said couldn’t be done. We won. Together. Now the real work begins,” he added.
