YMCA permanently closing two branches

Written by on August 1, 2020

The Victor and Monroe Ave. YMCAs are now permanently closed. The announcement was made Friday when company CEO George Romell, cited finical implications due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Greater Rochester area has 17 YMCA branches, with more than 2,00 employees furloughed since April.

The Monroe Ave. YMCA has been a community landmark for almost a hundred years. If you’ve ever been in the upstairs part, you know it has a sublime view of downtown at night. The building will now be used by The Center for Youth around the end of September.
