Wegmans is facing a class action lawsuit alleging that its store brand sunscreen, labeled as “Reef Conscious” and compliant with Hawaii’s SB2571 law, is misleading and harmful to the environment. The lawsuit claims the sunscreen contains ingredients such as avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate, and octocrylene, which are also considered dangerous for reef ecosystems according to Snorkel Around the World.

The lawsuit was filed by Monroe County resident Joelle Thomas on behalf of other plaintiffs, accusing Wegmans of making false and misleading statements about the environmental safety of their sunscreen. The plaintiffs seek monetary damages and reimbursement of costs and expenses. Wegmans has stated they are reviewing the lawsuit but have not yet commented.
