On Wednesday, United Airlines announced that they would begin acquiring around 200 electric air taxis to shuttle people in big cities to the airport quicker.
They’ve partnered up with a small, private company that produces electric helicopter style aircraft that are capable of vertical takeoff and landings.
The company is called Archer and hopes to have it’s first model finished by 2024 if they become certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The aircraft can fly as far as 60 miles on one battery and at speeds of up to 150 mph.
United added that this new endeavor was part of a program to reduce pollution from air traffic, and a way to invest in cleaner modes of travel.
