Total Lunar Eclipse Visible in Rochester Thursday Night
Written by Site Hub on March 13, 2025
Skywatchers in North America will have a prime view of a total lunar eclipse from Thursday night into early Friday morning. Unlike a solar eclipse, no protective eyewear is needed as the Moon will pass through Earth’s shadow, creating a stunning deep orange/red hue for just over an hour.
The eclipse will reach totality from 2:26 AM to 3:31 AM in Western New York. The Moon first passes through the Earth’s penumbra (outer shadow) before entering the umbra (inner shadow), where the dramatic color change occurs.
Local weather conditions are favorable, with a mix of clouds and clear skies providing good viewing opportunities.
As a bonus, Friday’s weather will be warm, with temperatures reaching the 60s and partial sunshine—perfect for those who might be “recovering” from a late night of stargazing!
