Time’s 2020 Person of the Year is ..

Written by on December 11, 2020

No one could have predicted the obscurities that 2020 would bring. Between an Election Day that turned into Election Week, a nationwide outcry for social justice and a global pandemic, this year has brought out the best and worst in people across the world.

On Thursday Time Magazine announced four finalists for 2020 Person of the Year.

Even the nomination list is unconventional.

1. President-elect Joe Biden – He received more popular votes than any other candidate in history, and he did it with a Black female running mate!

2.  President Donald Trump – who still hasn’t conceded, 30+ days after the election was called for his opponent.

3. Frontline Health Care Workers and Dr. Anthony Fauci – dang that’s like 1,000s of potential “persons of the year”. I agree that doctors and nurses on the frontline are heroes for putting their lives on the line to save others. But the verdict is still out on Dr. Fauci and his involvement in the Wuhan lab that is accused of releasing the virus to begin with. I wish Time would have put the Frontline workers in a category by themselves.

4. Movement for Racial Justice – Black Lives Matter: these three words were painted on professional sport courts, fields, and streets, including a road that literally leads to the White House. The death of George Floyd was a wake up call for Americans of all ages and races who took to the streets to demand justice. The deaths of several other unarmed Black people in America fueled that fan and led to days of rioting, looting and burning down establishments. The violence images were soon replaced by images of peaceful protests for weeks, even months to come.

UPDATE: 10pm

And the Winner of Time’s Person of the Year is … Joe Biden & Kamala Harris.
