T.I. and Tiny Secure $71 Million Victory in Trademark Lawsuit Against Toymaker

T.I. and Tameka “Tiny” Harris won a $71 million lawsuit against MGA Entertainment, successfully proving that the toy company infringed on the intellectual property rights of their music group, the OMG Girlz, with its L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls. After a three-week trial, a federal jury in Santa Ana, California, awarded the couple $17.8 million in actual damages and $53.6 million in punitive damages. The jurors determined that several of MGA’s dolls copied the likeness and trade dress of the Atlanta-based OMG Girlz, which T.I. and Tiny formed in 2009.
Tiny expressed gratitude to the jurors and reflected on the long legal battle, which began in 2020. This marks the couple’s third attempt at legal action, following a mistrial and a prior victory for MGA. A 2023 Supreme Court ruling allowed for the retrial, focusing on consumer confusion in intellectual property cases. Despite disbanding, the OMG Girlz have recently reunited and released a new single.
