Susan B. Anthony’s Headstone Gets It’s Own PPE This Year
Written by Site Hub on October 27, 2020
The traditional stop at Mount Hope cemetery after voting to put a sticker on Susan B. Anthony’s headstone is happening a little differently this year.
It starts with the social distancing signs, asking Rochestarians to keep 6ft apart and ends with a plastic shield over the tombstone itself.
The adhesive and solvents used to remove the “I voted” stickers have taken their toll on the stone over the years, so in an attempt to preserve the landmark, the non profit group “Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery” placed a plastic barrier on Susan and her sister Mary Anthony’s headstones.
According to communications director for the city of Rochester Justin Roc, several sleeves were produced by local company Unifab. That way they can be replaced as they fill up.
The cemetery hours on Nov. 3rd are from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and lights will be set to accommodate evening crowds.
