SNAP Recipients Gain Access to Hot Meals at Rochester Restaurants

Written by on September 18, 2025

Rochester residents who rely on SNAP benefits can now use them to purchase hot meals at seven local restaurants through New York State’s Restaurant Meals Program. The initiative supports individuals over 60, those with disabilities, and people experiencing homelessness, along with their spouses. Participants also receive a 10% discount when using SNAP. The program aims to assist those who lack access to cooking or storage facilities, making nutritious meals more accessible. Local leaders, including Rochester City Councilmember Mitch Gruber, praised the program as a vital community resource. Restaurant owner Philomina U. Emeka-Iheukwu expressed hope that it will ease the struggle of affording balanced diets.
