As a radio personality you have a responsibility to the community you serve each time you turn the microphone on. Especially, during sensitive times you must be mindful of the words you use. That was not the case with 95.1 radio host Kimberly and Beck who used racist rhetoric. As a result, they have been terminated by iHeartRadio.
News 8 WROC asked Professor Carvin Eison, Rochester Association of Black Journalists, and myself to speak on how we felt about the racial slur Kimberly of Kimberly and Beck used. Kayla Green from News 8 did the interviews.
My response that was we need white people to stop being silent when they see wrong doing against black people. Stand up against racism no matter if it’s in the boardroom, doctor’s offices, or with friends and family. Much more was said but we were on limited time.
The President of iHeart Media upstate New York Group Bob Morgan issued this statement.
We made the decision to terminate Kimberly and Beck yesterday as soon as we learned of their comments and informed them early this morning. We will not tolerate this kind of behavior, which is antithetical to our core values and beliefs and to our commitment to our community and everyone in it.
