NYC Goes 24 Hours With Zero COVID-19 Deaths
Written by Site Hub on July 14, 2020
For the first time since March, there were no deaths resulting from COVID-19 reported in a 24 hour period in New York City.
According to city officials, the successful results are in part due to new guidances on face masks and better testing availability.
The city wants to continue this streak and will be “doubling down” on testing, outreach programs and free mask distribution. There are 10 new testing sites in three boroughs and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio plans on increasing that number soon.
There is an unsettling infection rate increase in younger people, showing that there is not enough information available about this virus to ease up restrictions just yet.
Officials are still not satisfied with the lack of federal testing and are raising their voices in concern. de Blasio commented, saying:
“Our federal government never had testing in place from the beginning, they still don’t have enough… the federal government needs to step up now.”
