More Confederate Statues Removed From Public Locations In Georgia

More confederate monuments on display in the state of Georgia have been removed from public locations.

The first one to go stood outside the Gwinnett County Courthouse in Lawrenceville. It was originally installed in 1993 and has the phrase “1861-1865 Lest We Forget” inscribed in the stone. It has now been removed and put into storage.

Chairwoman Nicole Hendrickson gave a statement regarding the move, saying:

“A monument celebrating the confederacy on county property is inconsistent with the message of welcome and inclusion that the County is sending to the world. We should place it in storage to avoid further provocation and to help the cause of tranquility for the benefit of all.”

The second statue was one of confederate general Joseph E Johnston and was removed by the owners who are an organization that calls themselves “The United Daughters of the Confederacy.”
