Monroe County Recommends Masking Indoors For All; Local Business Update Policies

Written by on August 3, 2021

Yesterday, Monroe County made the announcement of recommending masking for all residents in public indoor facilities. This news comes with the rise of COVID-19 cases in the area. The county is also requiring masking for all county employees in county-operated facilities. In a statement from Monroe County Executive Adam Bello; “We’re seeing a surge of daily new positive cases in Monroe County and in many other communities across the state. While we know the vaccine is effective, we also know that the delta variant is more contagious than previous strains of the virus. As we continue to follow the CDC guidance, and in order to slow spread, we’re strongly recommending all Monroe County residents wear a face mask when indoors, where we know the virus spreads even greater.”

Local Businesses reacted to the news and their decision with this new recommendation. Places like Wegmans and Tops are not currently requiring masks, but places such as YMCA, Seneca Zoo, and the Rochester Museum & Science Center are requiring masks, regardless of vaccination status.
