Monroe County Expands Curbside Recycling to Include Cups
Written by Site Hub on December 21, 2025
Monroe County is expanding its Curbside Recycling Program to accept plastic to-go and paper cups, just in time for the holiday season when waste typically surges by 25%. County Executive Adam Bello said this move places the region ahead of many others, with the recyclable materials going to the MCRC facility in Rochester. Residents are asked to empty, rinse, and loosely place cups—with lids—into bins. However, foam cups, red party cups, and biodegradable plastics are still not accepted. Officials hope the change reduces the estimated 50 billion paper cups discarded in the U.S. each year, while simplifying recycling for residents.
