Three genetically engineered wolf pups, designed to resemble extinct dire wolves, have been born in a secure U.S. location, according to biotech company Colossal Biosciences. Using CRISPR and ancient DNA, scientists modified gray wolf cells to create the pups, which already weigh around 80 pounds.
While they may look like dire wolves, experts say full resurrection of extinct species isn’t yet possible. Colossal also cloned four red wolves to help save the critically endangered species.
