Janelle Monaé Rocks “Turntables” On Colbert

Written by on March 11, 2021

Tuesday, March 9th, American singer-songwriter Janelle Monaé appeared on The Late Show With Steven Colbert. Did you know she could play the guitar? She has a fully live band complete with a DJ that rocks.
This performance was partly an extension of an Amazon Original Movie led by Stacy Abrams called “All In: The Fight For Democracy”. Monae’s song represents all of what the documentary is about. Her lyrics go, “There’s a boomerang booming back.. yeah. You laid your egg now it’s ’bout to hatch.. yeah. You gas lighting ’bout to meet your match.. uuh. You f** up the kitchen, then you should do the dishes – we gon’ watch the tables turn… turn… turn”. These are all metaphors representing people who have experienced voter suppression, among other things in American society. It describes a validation for an uprising.
And now performing her song “Turntables” from the documentary All In: The Fight For Democracy starring Stacy Abrams, here’s Janelle Monae!
