Gov. Kathy Hochul Pushes Olympic Dream for New York

Written by on May 26, 2026

Governor Kathy Hochul says New York is seriously exploring a bid for a future Winter Olympics, potentially split between New York City and Lake Placid.

State Assemblyman Robert Carroll recently visited the upcoming Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo to study how a two-city Games could work.

Former Team USA hockey player David Leggio believes New York would be a great fit, saying the state already has much of the needed infrastructure.

Lake Placid previously hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980, giving New York a strong Olympic history to build on.
