Gen Z Grads Are Getting Fired Within Months of Being Hired

Written by on March 4, 2026

After years of complaining about Gen Z in the workplace, bosses are now taking action. According to a survey by Intelligent.com, 6 in 10 employers have already fired recent college grads just months after hiring them.

Three-quarters of companies said some or all of their 2024 grad hires were unsatisfactory. The biggest complaints? Lack of motivation, poor communication, unprofessional behavior, and being late to work. More than half of managers believe grads simply aren’t prepared for the workforce.

Some colleges are trying to fix the gap. At Michigan State University, students are now being taught practical skills like networking etiquette and reading social cues.

The message is clear: the classroom and the workplace are still worlds apart — and Gen Z is feeling the impact.
