Finger Lakes Communities Receive Millions for Water Infrastructure Upgrades
Written by Site Hub on December 14, 2025
The state of New York has approved millions in grants and low-interest loans to upgrade water and sewer infrastructure across Finger Lakes communities. Four major projects will benefit: Avon, Dresden, Penn Yan, and Phelps. Avon will receive $4.7 million to enhance water tanks and valve systems; Dresden will replace 20,000 feet of aging asbestos-cement pipes with a $6.6 million grant; Penn Yan is set for $6.2 million in interest-free financing for improvements to its wastewater systems; and Phelps will receive $12.7 million for wastewater plant upgrades. The funding, drawn from state and federal sources including the Environmental Bond Act, aims to modernize critical infrastructure without burdening local taxpayers. Governor Kathy Hochul highlighted the importance of these investments for public health, water quality, and long-term affordability. The projects are part of a larger push to address aging systems and protect water resources throughout the state, while also addressing emerging environmental contaminants.
