City of Rochester Lawyers Say “Good Cause Eviction” Bill Maybe Unlawful

Rochester City Council held a public hearing to discuss the “Good Cause Eviction” bill, though city lawyers have found this legislation may be unlawful. According to an analysis from City of Rochester lawyers, the proposed Eviction Reduction Law would be “invalid because it is preempted by State law and because it deprives individual property owners of federal rights under the U.S. Constitution”. Many landlords joined the City Council meeting. They expressed concern it would force them to keep problematic tenants and could run them out of business.
