Camp Legacy Launches as a Transformative Summer Experience for Black Youth
Written by Site Hub on April 8, 2025
Twin sisters Alex and Angelica Young are creating a powerful new tradition with Camp Legacy, an overnight summer camp for Black youth in Northern California. Running from June 20–22, the camp is designed to build confidence, foster leadership, and celebrate cultural identity. Inspired by their decade-long work in Sacramento and Bay Area public charter schools, the Youngs founded Young Legacies, Inc. to address the lack of accessible outdoor programs for Black children.
Camp Legacy offers archery, crafts, group games, and night hikes in a supportive, culturally affirming environment. Its mission is to close the gap in representation—currently, less than 10% of overnight camp attendees in the U.S. are Black. The camp’s debut session will take place at YMCA Camp Campbell, but the sisters have plans for a permanent 43-acre site. Their goal: to nurture a generation of resilient, curious, and community-minded Black youth.
