Yesterday, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California will be requiring that all elementary through high school students get the COVID-19 shot once the vaccine gains final approval from the US government for different age groups. As it currently stands, the government has fully approved the COVID-19 vaccine for those 16 and over and only granted an emergency authorization for anyone 12 to 15.
California will be the first state to require the vaccine for school children. Gover Gavin Newson said he expects that requirement to be in place by July 1. In a statement about this planned mandate, Newson stated: “We want to end this pandemic. We are all exhausted by it.”
