Brighton Police Use VR Technology for Immersive Training
Written by Site Hub on July 27, 2025
The Brighton Police Department has implemented cutting-edge virtual reality technology for officer training, thanks to a New York State Law Enforcement Technology Grant. Officers now train using VR headsets that simulate real-life scenarios—ranging from routine interactions to high-pressure situations—without needing physical actors or closing down locations. The system enables instant playback for feedback, allowing trainees to review and improve their performance. According to Captain Timothy Karch, this immersive approach enhances training effectiveness by letting officers immediately revisit and refine decision-making in simulated environments. Every officer in the department will participate in VR training annually. Officials say the tech also allows real-world scenarios to be recreated as they occur, improving response preparedness and accountability.
