Blockbuster Blizzard is Slamming California

A severe winter storm is impacting California, bringing unprecedented snowfall, intense winds, and blizzard conditions, primarily in the mountain regions. The storm is predicted to be the most significant snow event of the year for the state and is expected to drop between 6 to 12 feet of snow in some areas over a few days, particularly along the Sierra Nevada. Wind gusts have surpassed 140 mph at the highest peaks, and snowfall rates could hit 3 to 5 inches per hour. Heavy snow and high winds create dangerous blizzard conditions with near-zero visibility in some places. The National Weather Service has warned of treacherous travel conditions, and major roadways like I-80 could face extended closures. Yosemite National Park is closed due to the blizzard warning, and there are concerns about substantial disruptions to daily life in the affected areas. The worst of the storm is expected to taper off by Sunday, but another less intense snowy system could follow early next week.
