Better Business Bureau warns people to stop sharing senior photos and other personal information

The Better Business Bureau has revealed that hackers can use social media posts about graduating from high school or other academic institutions to gain access to people’s various online accounts.

Schools throughout the country have closed to stop the spread of SARS-CoV-2, resulting in many students who were supposed to graduate this year posting their senior portraits on their social media accounts, alongside the name and location of their high school and the #Classof2020 tag. As well as people who were supposed to graduate from college and school this year, those who have graduated in the past have also participated in the trend.

However, the Better Business Bureau has stated that hackers can use this small amount of data to figure out people’s account passwords. Two common online security questions ask about a person’s high school and graduation year. Even if someone has high privacy settings, a skilled hacker only needs a name, photo and a small amount of personal information about someone to hunt down additional details before using all of this information to hack the person’s accounts or steal their identity.
