Rochester mayor announces financial counseling resource for citizens

Written by on April 14, 2020

On Tuesday, April 7, Mayor Lovely Warren announced via a press release that Rochester citizens have another COVID-19 financial resource available to them within the community. The Financial Empowerment Center has developed plans to help members of the community navigate their financial difficulties during this pandemic. Anyone who reaches out to the FEC can receive free, professional counseling on a one-on-one basis via remote options.

Per Mayor Warren: “The Rochester Financial Empowerment Center is a tremendous resource to help our citizens adapt to this new economic landscape. I urge anyone facing difficult financial circumstances to consider using this service.”

As part of its new COVID-19 response, FEC counselors can explain to residents how to avoid rampant misinformation, fraud, and scams; create budgets for current and future emergencies; locate resources and services for emergency relief; understand options related to rent deferment, loans, and mortgages; and create and maintain overall financial goals. The FEC has also created a Federal Economic Impact Payments Q&A document with information about the federal economic stimulus checks.

The Rochester Federal Empowerment Center, through a partnership with Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund model and the Consumer Credit Counseling Service, normally offers general financial counseling and guidance designed to help people reduce their debt and increase their savings. Rochester citizens can now reach out to representatives to schedule appointments for COVID-19 financial counseling by calling (585) 252-7110 or emailing Rochesterfec@cccsofrochester.org.
