Alicia Keys and Swae Lee Perform New Single ‘Lala’ at VMAs

Alicia Keys performed for the MTV VMAs and did not disappoint. This was Alicia Keys’ first time performing in nearly a decade, as well as the first live performance of her new single ‘Lala’ with rapper Swae Lee. The duo’s new duet was announced on September 1st. ‘Lala’ dropped on September 9th, marking the 20th anniversary of the iconic singer-songwriter’s debut album, ‘Songs in a Minor Key.’ Alicia Keys’ last performance was in 2012 when Nicki Minaj and Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas joined in on a performance of “Girl on Fire.”

At the end of Alicia Key’s performance, and in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attack, she ended with a performance of her classic “Empire State of Mind,” a day after New York along with the rest of the nation remembered the tragedies at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Western Pennsylvania.
