Albany Cancels Overnight Summer Camps

Officials at the state capitol have decided against allowing overnight summer camps this season in New York due to the coronavirus pandemic.
On Friday, the State Health Commissioner, Dr. Howard Zucker said it would be too hard to effectively manage social distancing measures with children to stop the spread of COVID-19.
He released a statement, saying:
“Overnight camps have congregate settings and sleeping arrangements in close quarters that present too many risks, in such a setting, even a single positive case in a camper or staff member could create an untenable quarantine situation and overwhelm camp health personnel that may not be able to handle a serious infectious outbreak of this nature.”
As the state begins to re-open, many parents are concerned about childcare solutions. Day camps will be allowed as long as they follow guidelines in place to help stop the spread of COVID-19
