Medical Students Demonstrate Against Racial Inequality In Their Industry

On Friday, the local chapter of White Coats for Black Lives held a protest that demonstrated against racial inequality in the medical field at URMC.
Last year, they held a similar demonstration and they reintroduced the demands had they presented in the past.

They are calling for: fostering critical dialogue, preparing future physicians to be advocates for racial justice, and working to end racial inequality within the medical field.

WROC was able to interview Amundam Mancho, a 3rd year medical student at UofR and organizer, saying:

“We want something more than just words like we’re asking today for a timeline. We just want to see that these changes and our voices are being heard. Because like I mentioned, these demands have been present multiple times so it’s like there’s no reason why we can’t have a timeline or an action plan.”

The group says they did get a letter from the president of the university, so they feel their voices are being heard. They want to see a plan present to address their demands.
