Advocates for parole reform are asking lawmakers to back two parole reform proposals.
13 Wham states:
“The first is the elder parole bill. It would give those ages 55 and up in prison, who have served 15 years of their sentence, a chance to be paroled regardless of their crime. The other is the fair and timely parole bill, which calls on the parole board to review the cases of inmates who are already eligible for parole.”
Saturday, those who have family incarcerated gathered with Free the People of Rochester to advocate for the bill to pass.
Jerome Wright stated:
“The fact of the matter is, it’s a racial issue and it’s a criminal justice issue that’s been going on for far too long. They’ve been allowed to, with total impunity, deny people parole just for the nature of their crime.”
