Firework Malfunction Causes Truck Explosion

Written by on July 5, 2021

Over the weekend, a box truck exploded when returning from a firework show in Akron. Inside of the box truck included a large number of packed fireworks. The truck burst into a ball of flames when heading south on South Lake Road in Pembroke. Thankfully the Pembroke Assistant Fire Chief Edwin Mileham had heard the explosion of the truck, just moments before he was going to bed. Chief Mileham then had his pager go off just moments later.

Chief Mileham only lives a few minutes away from the explosion, and when he arrived on the scene, fireworks were exploding all over the place, with the truck fully involved. He stated; “All of a sudden he saw sparks and then a loud bang, then he pulled over and got out.” The debris went 1,000 feet down the road and into nearby yards.
