60 mph Wind Gusts Leave Thousands Without Power Over The Weekend

Two days ago at the beginning of the weekend, thousands of people from Orleans to Yates County lost power as 60mph wind gusts whipped through the region.
RG&E, NYSEG and National Grid estimate somewhere over 7500 outages occurred in homes and businesses across the greater Rochester area.
In Mendon, the wind knocked down several telephones, snapping them at the base and pulling down exposed wires which made them extremely dangerous.
Sara Geen, who lives on Mendon Ionia Road gave a statement, saying:
“It’s been quite a crazy day with the wind,” Geen said. “That was insane. We just had the wires behind us start flaming and sparking right before our eyes. Just crazy. The wires came down, and they’re down in the yard at this point.”
