Bill Passed In Legislation For Use Of SNAP Online

Written by on August 4, 2020

If you receive SNAP benefits you may be able to use them to shop online for good very soon. Legislation passed the bill in late July and now only needs Governor Andrew Cuomo to sign it into law.

The bill “authorizes the use of supplemental nutrition assistance program benefits to purchase online groceries in accordance with federal laws and regulations and relates to the state supplemental nutrition assistance program outreach program.”

Under the pilot program, SNAP recipients could buy groceries online through participating retailers. For New York, the retailers that accept SNAP benefits online are Walmart, Amazon, and ShopRite.

To test the feasibility of grocery stores accepting SNAP benefits online legislation introduced the 2014 Farm Bill. And also, to make sure people could securely and safely use their benefits online.

New York State started the pilot program last year.
