FAA Won’t Pick A Side On COVID-19 Saftey During Air Travel

Written by on June 18, 2020

The Federal Aviation Administration has decided that it won’t make mask wearing mandatory on commercial aircraft, but it will leave the decision up to individual airlines.
The main reason behind their stance on the issue is that the Center for Disease Control is in charge of essential rules and the FCC is in charge of aviation safety.

Reports have shown that when trying to enforce a mandatory mask rule, some passengers are refusing to comply.

Several Senators have made it clear that it’s not okay that the FAA is only suggesting — not requiring — anti-COVID-19 safety protocol during a pandemic, where the virus could have originally spread internationally through air travel.

Kyrsten Sinema, a Democrat from Arizona said:

“The FAA needs to do more to ensure the aviation system is mitigating the spread of the virus.”

United Airlines says that it’s starting a list of passengers who refuse to wear masks. They could be prohibited from flying in the future.
