Prostitution May Become Decriminalized In New York State

A new bill could be passed in the senate that would allow prostitution to become legal in New York State. Under the proposed law buying and selling sex would be legal according to an article on WHEC.com. However, it would not be legal in all cases.
If the law is passed New York would decriminalize sex work. It would be the first state to do this statewide even though Nevada is the only state currently where prostitution is legal in some areas.
The laws in place now effect sex workers more often than the people who use their services. Nevada is currently the only state where prostitution is legal but not across the entire state.
It will be interesting to see if this bill actually passes because it is not the first time it’s been introduced to the senate. Last year it didn’t make it out of the committee.
Let’s say this law is passed how would it effect sex trafficking and would there be an age restriction for sex workers? Would prior offenders records be expunged? Would there be designated areas across the state? If a sex worker is assaulted will the individual assaulting them face stiff penalties?
