Thanks to the Rochester City School District, STEAM Day 2019 is the first, hopefully of many, student convention focused on introducing students to all the different careers they can pursue in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.

This convention, located at Sibley Square in downtown Rochester, brought in more than 30 different technical, innovative and artistic local vendors. Companies like L3Harris, Rochester Gas & Electric, Bausch & Lomb, RIT, Democrat & Chronicle, and so many more were in attendance.

Many of the vendors showed students hands on activities to give them a taste of what a day in the life in their career would be like. Students were able to try virtual reality, robotics, and RG&E even demonstrated to students how to mount an electric pole. The WDKX Jam Squad was even able to bless several enthusiastic students with tickets to Step Jam 2019!

In addition to the vendors, many RCSD officials could be found throughout the convention participating in the hands on activities and engaging the students. The Jam Squad was able to converse with RCSD Commissioner Beatriz LeBron and RCSD Superintendent Terry Dade.

Superintendent Dade had this to say about STEAM Day 2019, “I am so grateful for the 30+ sponsors who are dedicating their time to be with you [students] today. It’s partners like these who support students to explore outside of the classroom.”

Personally, I’m happy that there is something like this to let students know that they can love math, science AND art. STEAM Day 2019 was a fun learning experience for students and adults alike! I can’t wait to see what STEAM Day 2020 has to offer.
