Disneyland gets final approval for ‘biggest thing’ since its opening

Disneyland in Anaheim, California, has received final approval from the Anaheim city council to undertake a significant expansion of its theme parks, a project referred to as “DisneylandForward.” This project, described as the “biggest thing” since Disneyland’s opening in 1955, involves rezoning approximately 550 acres to allow for the expansion of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks without acquiring new land. This expansion enables the construction of new attractions in areas previously designated only for hotels or parking.

The project promises to boost visitor numbers from an estimated 25 million to 40 million annually over the next two decades and requires no public funding. Although specific designs remain undisclosed, Disney has shared concept art hinting at new themed lands and attractions, including a potential “Avatar” adventure land and areas inspired by the “Black Panther” and “Frozen” franchises.

The expansion aims to enhance guest experiences by reducing overcrowding and extending stay durations. The project’s approval marks a major milestone for both Disneyland and the city of Anaheim, promising significant economic benefits and improvements in local infrastructure, including transportation and housing.
