Written by Site Hub on February 13, 2024
On February 12, 2024, about 20 students and their teachers from five Rochester schools traveled to Albany to advocate for the Advanced Placement (AP) programs. The delegation aims to meet with state legislators to discuss the importance of sustaining AP program support. Their agenda includes addressing the funding for AP exam fees and the necessity of expanding AP offerings to schools lacking such programs. The students representing Edison, Monroe, School of the Arts, School Without Walls, and World of Inquiry School focused on ensuring that low-income students have their AP exam fees covered. Junior Caleb Smith expressed the value of these courses, emphasizing their role in providing a superior education and preparing students for college-level work. The Rochester City School District students join peers and other teachers from across the state in these discussions, highlighting the collective effort to enhance educational opportunities for New York students.
