Woodstock 50 Is On Its Way!

Written by on March 20, 2019

The original Woodstock Music and Art Fair of 1969 was held on a 600-acre dairy farm in Bethel, New York, on the dates of August 15–18. The festival was a symbol of peace and solidarity and ultimately a political statement opposing the racism, sexism, and war of the decade.

Although the event planners and promoters were sure no more than 50,000 would attend, the festival attracted more than 400,000 attendees. Riots and destruction were expected by everyone, but instead the festival remained solely about peace, love, and music.

Fifty years later, the festival has returned and will host more than 80 acts covering a wide range of generations and genres, including some of the same artists who performed in the original Woodstock. The 50th anniversary show, called Woodstock 50, will be held in Watkins Glen, NY between the dates of August 16-18, 2019.

The anniversary show will feature some of the original Woodstock performers like, Arlo Guthrie, Edgar Winter, Carlos Santana, John Foggerty, Amy Helm, David Crosby and Friends, Melanie, and John Sebastian.

Some of the new acts performing include, The Killers, Miley Cyrus, Jay-Z, Imagine Dragons, Halsey, Akon, India.Arie, and Common, who had this to say about the show,

“There is so much going on right now, I think one of the best ways we can combat the ignorance, the divisiveness, the hatred, is to go out there and push love, express love and practice love — and it definitely comes through, that love comes through in Woodstock.”

Tickets for Woodstock 50 are set to go on sale April 22, 2019; pricing is not yet available.
