A woman from Kenner, Louisiana, is facing a felony charge after allegedly drowning her dog in a bathroom at Orlando International Airport when she was not allowed to bring it on an international flight.
According to Orlando police, the woman was stopped from boarding a Latam Airlines flight to Colombia in December because she lacked the proper paperwork for her white miniature schnauzer, Tywinn. Surveillance footage showed her entering a bathroom with the dog and exiting alone about 20 minutes later. She later passed through security and boarded her flight.
A janitor discovered Tywinn’s body in a trash bag inside the bathroom stall, along with a dog travel bag, a collar, and tags linking the dog to the woman. A necropsy confirmed the 9-year-old schnauzer had been drowned.
Authorities said the woman had failed to provide veterinary and rabies vaccination certificates required for international pet travel. She was arrested Wednesday in Lake County on a charge of aggravated animal abuse, a third-degree felony, and released on $5,000 bond.
The woman has not yet been assigned legal representation, according to court records.
