Without Vanessa Bryant’s Consent, Nike Made Shoes She Designed To Honor Her Child

Written by on June 5, 2021

Vanessa Bryant, the widow of the late basketball great Kobe Bryant and mother of their 13 year old daughter Gianna, had designed a shoe called the MAMBACITA. This is a reference to a nickname for daughter Gianna who also went by Gigi, and made the decision to not sell the shoes and did not re-sign the contract with Nike. However, without consent, Nike decided to sell the shoe, leaving Bryant confused as to why. Vanessa shared to her Instagram:

Vanessa Bryant’s plan for all of the proceeds was to go to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, which was created in memory of Kobe and Gianna.
