Will Smith is set to release his first album in 20 years, titled “Based on a True Story,” on March 28, 2025. The 14-track LP follows his 2005 album, “Lost and Found,” and features collaborations with Big Sean, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Russ, Teyana Taylor, and his son Jaden.
Fans have already gotten a taste of the album with singles like “Beautiful Scars” (feat. Big Sean), “Work of Art” (feat. Russ and Jaden), and “You Can Make It” (feat. Fridayy & the Sunday Service Choir)—the latter of which Smith performed at the 2024 BET Awards.
In an interview with Billboard, Smith shared that the album is part of a three-part musical project, formatted like a TV series with each album as a “season” and each song as an “episode.”
The first season, “Rave in the Wasteland,” drops in March, followed by “The Gift of Madness” (dedicated to Quincy Jones) this summer and an untitled third season by the end of 2025.
Smith will also return to the stage, headlining France’s 2025 Positiv Festival on July 31.
