Who Is Scott Turner? Trump’s Pick for Housing Secretary

Scott Turner, a former NFL player and the first Black Cabinet pick by President-elect Donald Trump, has been nominated to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Known for his dynamic career, Turner brings a blend of sports, politics, and motivational leadership to the role.

Turner, 52, played nine NFL seasons before transitioning to politics, serving in the Texas House of Representatives and working in Congress. During Trump’s first term, he led the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council, focusing on driving investments into economically distressed areas through Opportunity Zones.

Turner’s leadership at HUD will oversee a vast array of housing initiatives, including public housing, rental subsidies, and programs addressing homelessness. With a budget of billions, HUD’s mission is to promote affordable housing and enforce fair housing laws.

Turner’s nomination aligns with Trump’s campaign priorities, such as reducing housing costs by tackling inflation and deregulating construction. Known for his motivational speaking and work as a pastor, Turner’s diverse background positions him to bring a unique perspective to addressing America’s housing challenges.
